Sho Ota is a Japanese designer based in Eindhoven NL. After graduation from Design Academy Eindhoven with MA of Contextual Design in 2018, he started his own design studio there. Before coming to the Netherlands, he had been working as a designer and prototype maker at a wooden furniture manufacturer in Japan.
Through his objects Sho Ota conveys his deep passion for wood, bringing to life a dialogue of cultures. His sculptural works are both minimalistic and multi-layered. Every object coming from Ota’s hands is a unique piece of design. The development of the form comes along during the process of craftsmanship and depends on the wood – its softness and texture.
“In order to fulfil his satisfaction which couldn’t be achieved in the mass production process, now I pursue the possibility between industrial and crafts field by facing materials.”.
